287 disc golfers from across the U.S. played in this event.

On Saturday morning tournament central looked like the national doppler weather station as the rain came down in buckets for the greater half of the morning. By late afternoon it was a completely different day with sunshine that stuck around for the rest of the weekend.

I think we all felt like we lived through ten different days with the way the weather changed. The weather always makes us a little bit more humble.

Personally, I love hearing everyone’s story. With so many people traveling from out of state, there was so much to be said. Disc Golf really is an adventure and it is the one thing that binds us together from so many different backgrounds.

I loved talking to Callie McMorran who came out on Saturday to vend in route from the PDGA AM Worlds (Evansville, IN) to the U.S. Women’s Disc Golf Championship (Madison, WI).

If you don’t know Callie, she is a professional FPO player but is more well known for running her disc golf business, traveling the country running tournaments, and selling discs and merch… and she’s only 25! A true road dog and girl boss.

Ed Schenkenfelder’s story also stole my heart. He volunteered to be a spotter on hole 6A, he donated discs to give away to anyone that got a birdie on that hole. It wasn’t just any disc though, there was a caricature of Ed hand drawn by MAD Magazine alum Ed Steckley.

One might ask how did Ed connect with this artist, and it was at the Museum of Science of Industry for the Rube Goldberg contest where Ed Steckley randomly picked Ed out of the crowd, giving him the drawing at the end! But it doesn’t end there, Ed Steckley’s teacher also randomly did a caricature of Ed Schenkenfelder and his girlfriend (now wife) years before this encounter.

Life has so many subtleties and strange nuances that remind us just how connected we all are. Here are some of my favorite moments from the event.
