Ni-U-Ko^-Ska (Osage Nation) DiscGolfPark PAWHUSKA OKLAHOMA

The Ni-U-Ko^-Ska (Osage Nation) DiscGolfPark is located downtown Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Established in 2022, this disc golf course was designed by 2009 PDGA World Champion, Avery Jenkins in cooperation with the Osage Nation Tribe.

At 6,140 feet long, this course has an unassuming entrance. There is a beautiful entry with commemorative signs, and a sidewalk that leads into the forest. The first few holes are relatively short in the woods, but on the back-side of the course it gets championship-level long with elevation changes and views of Bird Creek.

Pawhuska, Oklahoma is also the home of 2009 World Champion Avery Jenkins, AND the Pioneer Woman, Red Drummond.

If you are hungry, I highly recommend checking out The Pioneer Woman Mercantile in downtown Pawhuska. They have an all-day menu, so you can order your breakfast at lunch, or your dinner at breakfast.

We actually came to Pawhuska to eat at the Pioneer Woman Mercantile, we took it to go and ate at a park nearby. When I pulled out my phone to look up disc golf courses nearby, I realized we were ontop of one — just across the street was Osage Nation DiscGolf Park.

We also checked out Bluestream Falls on the way into town.

Why is the Pioneer Woman a big deal? She has a show on the The Food Network, a line of merchandise at Walmart (for over a decade), and she owns a pizza shop, candy store, ice cream shop and hotel all downtown Pawhuksa. She also married a cowboy, whose family has been into ranching for years. They own 433,000 acres of land in Osage County (they also have a YouTube channel: Drummond Ranch).

Holes 1 through 10 are mostly under 300 feet. You can see just how well they were thought out as they wind through the woods with mild elevation changes. There are greater elevation changes on the back of the course where the holes are longer.

Oklahoma is a wild place. Sometimes I think I am a country girl, and then I realize I am far from it. If one thing is for sure, I do not like to go into the thick of it in rural Oklahoma.

They have TARANTULAS (I have seen plenty while driving and at a nearby state park, just not here on the course) and RATTLE SNAKES (which I have not seen, and I don’t want to). So I use my most-consistent shot out here, my side-arm flick - which does not go as far as my backhand, but it is in the fairway!

Their worms are not like Illinois. I like to save worms from the sidewalks on rainy days in Illinois. Oklahoma worms hit different, you can saddle them and ride them.

There are two long and high bridges where you will cross Bird Creek. I get a little nervous with heights sometimes, and these crossings got me for a second. But once I hung out there just to enjoy the view I was fine.

This was Kai’s first big road trip with us. She was really in her element here enjoying exploring the course. She is a total frisbee dog. She loves disc golf, playing catch with her frisbee, and watching disc golf on TV!

Hole 12 is 549 feet it doesn’t look like much, relatively flat and long. I watched Chris throw his second shot and hyzer out, not realizing it went straight down a cliff. I told him to forget about that disc forever. We looked for it from the bridge above, and he said if I see it I’m getting it (which he did see and get, but if that was me I would be dead rolling down the hill into the river - ”creek”).

Before I looked up the name of the waterway here, I was sure it was a river because of its size, but it is indeed a creek. Bird Creek!

This is the bridge that looked over the cliff where Chris’ disc landed.
