Sandy Point Resort & Disc Golf Ranch 2019
A little slice of disc golf heaven, I love Sandy Point Resort & Disc Golf Ranch. There’s a reason we have been coming up here since 2007.
After a very busy and long summer season we came up here for the 27th Northwoods Open. Chris played in the tournament, and I sat on the beach the whole time! Almost the whole time. I can’t help it, I get stuck in those colorful adirondack chairs with the beautiful view of Amber Lake and discs flying in on hole 27.
There were times I felt guilty for being lazy and not taking pictures, and then I did not feel guilty at all because this is where I find myself pushing that ‘refresh life’ button. It always feels so reflective being here for the Northwoods. You literally feel the season change. Summer tries to hold on for just a little bit longer, but the days are a little bit shorter, and the air is crisp. The trees show that they are almost ready to turn with little fragments of them starting to show their fall colors.
During the day the sun is very warm here, the clouds try to break that heat and the wind blows right off the lake (it makes hole 27 the best show in town). Late afternoons are usually calm. At night it gets chilly. We camped out each night and I made sure to wear my hoodie and winter hat to bed each night (Chris laughed at me the first night – but he didn’t the second night and almost followed suit). I knew that from previous years all too well that is just what you do to stay warm at night.
I played a few rounds here this year for fun. They now have two baskets on every hole making up the Silver Loon and Blue Walleye courses. My advice to those playing the tournament when they would play to the short holes was “play the long course.” It is just a totally different mentality when you play the longs.
Throughout the course I could see subtle details of things that were added, especially the new signs with arrows directing you to the next hole. Subtle but very informative especially for those that have not been here before.
I made sure to soak in every moment. This place is memorable no matter how many times you visit. In the photographs below I really wanted to show you some perspective here so that you can understand the depth of this place.
